How do I know if my fossil will be real?

“Am I going to get scammed?” is most likely one of the biggest worries for new collectors just getting ready to make their first fossil purchase online. “Is this a real fossil?” is one of the most common questions I get asked.  So let me start by attempting to put your mind at ease. My name is Garry Dye, and I am the owner of Investment Fossils, which has been been the #1 Fossil Store on eBay for the past 15 years…in a row…with OVER 14,000 positive reviews and NOT a single negative or even neutral.  I began selling fossils the exact same way I wanted to purchase them for my own collection: Hassle Free.  We offer 30 day “No Questions Asked” returns and take ALL the risk out of buying.  Even if you know absolutely nothing about fossils, I think we can both agree that it would be impossible to scam over 14,000 avid collectors without a single negative review.  Over 75% of our sales are from repeat customers for a reason: collectors trust us. It’s as simple as that.

MEGALODON

un·fath·om·a·ble:

adjective

1.incapable of being fully explored or understood.

The Megalodon Shark was by far the largest SUPER PREDATOR the world has ever known. Some have compared this shark to the liking of a Great White shark on steroids but this is like comparing a Great White Shark to a gold fish on steroids.  There is no comparison.  A full grown Megalodon shark could have weighed upwards of 20 to 30x MORE than an modern adult Great White shark.  It's simply unfathomable: incapable of being fully explored or understood.

Anatomy of a Megalodon Attack

With 276 teeth distributed over 5 rows, and reaching up to a staggering 7 inches in length, this shark could have eaten anything it wanted...and did.  But what appears in the fossil record more than anything else is a diet consistent in whale meat and blubber.  The picture to the right shows the aftermath of a Megalodon attack on a whale, creating deep groves and gouges that are still evident millions of years later.  This demonstrates the sheer biting force of a Megalodon shark on its prey.   The bite force of the Megalodon shark was mind-blowing...able to generate up to 20 tons of biting force per chomp. Compare that to the wimpy bite force of a T-Rex,  which could only muster up 3.1 tons of bite power, and you can quickly see why there is not even a close second  when it comes to the most formidable APEX PREDATOR the world has ever known.

The amount of food the Megalodon shark would have needed to consume just to maintain its own bodyweight is astonishing.  Scientists believe the Megalodon shark would have needed to devour upwards of 1,000 pounds PER DAY, equal in weight to a small adult modern Great White Shark,  just to maintain its own bodyweight.  The Megalodon shark was able to achieve this via its rows of massive serrated teeth that came together to resemble a string of steak knives.
